Superb location, fantastic building, wonderful rooms and decor! The staff were all very friendly and helpful - almost felt like an extension of the family.

Could be somewhat isolated for some, but we loved it.

A wonderful old house, lovingly restored by dedicated owners. They have not compromised on style or taste and have developed their family home into a welcomeing, freindly hotel. During our visit we felt more like family friends, than paying guests. It was lovely to see an hotel which does not have large numbers of idential rooms, which could be anywhere in the country. Please do not try to "modernise" but keep things just as they are.

Beautiful old mansion house with many original features, steeped in history and gives a feeling of living like a Lord. Great owners, very friendly and giving great service. Add to this good food and all for an excellent price. Real value for money

    The views. The morning coffee.

It was cold in the rooms heating off between 10am and 5pm and after 10pm alright in summer not good when snow is falling. The room was old, the bathroom was in a mess with broken toilet, leaking soap dispencer and tiny towels. No fluffy dressing gowns as quoted. TV didnt work properly. Meals were very small.

The location is great, with tremendous views of the Yorkshire countryside. The old building is so charming and the rooms large and comfortable.

The shower wasn't powerful enough The good size of the room meant it was quite cold as heating wasn't on Bedding too short - Signage inadequate from the main road

Everything from arrival to departure was excellent. The house is stunning and the staff & owners were fantastic hosts. Highly recommended place to stay for any occasion and I will certainly be staying again. Just perfect!

Owners friendly and welcoming. Waitress in dining room very friendly and efficient despite being the only person serving 14+ people. Hotel building and surroundings very pleasant.

Hotel is very much in need of updating and renovation in several areas. Particularly the plumbing ... the Saniflo toilets are not acceptable since the noise of their operation is a disturbance to neighbouring rooms. So much for the advertised 'soundproof rooms' The overbath shower head is far too small - although this did not affect me personally since, after my husband's attempts to establish water temperature failed - resulting in a shower which varied from scalding hot to ice cold from second to second - I was advised by him to forgo showering. And not a 'fluffy bathrobe' in sight. The room itself, whilst pleasant, was very small. The menu on offer at dinner was seriously overpriced - £12.99 for 'bangers and mash' where the sausages seemed to be the sort supplied in bulk from a freezer centre is extortionate - and the accompanying 'celeriac mash' was plain old mashed potato. My husband fared only a little better with overcooked chunks of liver. Breakfast was a similar disappointment - overcooked and rubbery scrambled egg which could well have been warmed up from the previous day, along with the 'saute'ed pototatoes. It really is very easy to provide a well-cooked breakfast of standard and unvarying items. On balance, despite the previously mentioned positive aspects, the hotel is overpriced for what it is, that opinion being strongly reinforced by the very poor quality of the catering. A poor comparison with our stays in other hotels during this short trip.

Friendly and welcoming staff, very comfortable room, lovely countryside, amazing building. Four poster bed Overall a very pleasant stay and somewhere I will definitely go back to

The shower in my room could have been better but a minor criticism.

I liked the amazing building and gardens, the large bedroom. The breakfast was very good and the evening meal was enjoyable. The service was very good.

Coming from the A66 we found it difficult to find.

Rural setting With total refurb it would make a nice hotel.

Where does one start! Room dirty, never dusted or vacuumed in a week. Bed unmade - had to make it myself 3 nights. No clean sheets in over a week. Bathroom dirty - washbasin never cleaned 2 days Toilet not cleaned or bath or floor. Small black insects in bathroom. Plumbing a noisy nightmare Food dreadful - can't even cook breakfast Rooms cold and entire hotel needs a deep clean
